1.                     DAVID COON

My dad and My uncle owned the largest AMC dealership in the US, REDFORD, MI., I worked with AMC on Testing various performance parts from AMC, we had one of these ssamx, I personally knew everyone that built there cars, we were in on the scrambler American, my car was the prototype, also was in on the the Hornet pro/stock that Shirley Shahan, the car ran at Indy as a exibition, I bought the engine out that car, put the engine my American, which had ,513 rears gears, super t-10 with 2.66 first gear ratio. edlebrock tunnel ram, with 2 1050ctm holleys, crane soild roller, carbs were modified by Dick Aaron out Berkley, Mi, Knew Wally Booth, Dick Maskin, There guys were running AMC Prostocks, Dick Maskin would cut 2 AMC
heads in half , weld these together, modify cylinders,to flow much better. Back then running 8.60s. Dart cylinder heads is owned by Mr Maskin. Michigan was the hot bed for Prostock racing, Butch Leal lived in Union Lake, for a while. My cousin, Bill Coon, did a lot of work for Dyno Don Nichlson, from when had the red Comet, also did work for Jack Roush, Wayne
Gapp, from the 1966,and up. Bill Coon and Dyno Don, collected sohc engine blocks, and cylinder heads, stored much of there parts at my uncles barn. We sold the AMXss car to guy in Plymouth, MI, This guy has done nothing to the car, just sits in a private location, our car was white , modified rears wheel openings, with primered rear openings. I was at Larson Engineering when Buddy Martin came in asked Larson to put this pair of Hooker header
collectors on Larsons handmade headers, on the Prostock Plymouth Cuda that Ronnie Sox drove. Buddy said that He had to have Hooker collectors on so could paid for from Hooker header co. They were under contract with Hooker, to run there products. Back to Shirley Shanhan, she drove S/S automatic cars, she said the AMX scared her driving it because of
the 4-speed and pulled the wheels a lot. I got to knew the Manager at Hurst Performance on North End off 8 Mile, Southfileld, Mi. They putting together the Hemi Cudas, Hemi Darts. One room had all the engines [hemis], the other large room Darts, Cudas. Also met Dick Landy at a Performance Clinic in Farmington, MI, He just has had Dart painted, ready to race. Have to go,
